TELENS

In Japan, lots of people visit the Mountain to see the first Sunrise of the year (hatsu hinode), and they pray for a wish with their hands together to the rising sun.  I developed new photographic technique “TELENS”(TE is the Japanese word for HAND). It is a unique hand-pinhole exposure.  TELENS is extremely difficult to form a subject image.  Only when I visited a special place for me or met someone that I loved so much, I want to capture and hold their lights in my hand like a prayer.  I express more than thing which I have seen, my mental impression recalled from the past.   TELENS is a concept based on the premise of placing my bare handhold in front of the exposure aperture in the camera. The natural light is framed and filtered by my hand-pinhole. Some light can pass through deep under my skin containing myoglobin as a muscle pigment, and make photography appear to glow red color. TELENS takes this process further and discards the use of mechanical lenses.  I like to think of it as a new form of physical photographic expression that intimately ties the photographer, the camera and the subject together in an all-inclusive process of creation. All my photography work is created WITHOUT any digital photo editing.

私はその技法をTELENS(手レンズ)と名付けました。
